Create and Submit a Custom Sitemap (Advanced)
You have the option to generate and submit a custom sitemap if you want more control over how Google crawls and maps your website. Some advanced users and SEO professionals prefer custom sitemaps to personalize which pages are included or prioritized.
⚠️ Important
We do not recommend creating a custom sitemap for most users. This option is intended for advanced marketing users with SEO experience. If you are not familiar with SEO best practices and sitemap formatting, you should use the default sitemap automatically generated by Real Geeks.
An incorrectly built sitemap can prevent pages from being indexed properly. The default Real Geeks sitemap is reliable, automatically updated, and best for the average agent.
When to use a custom sitemap
- You have professional SEO or technical marketing experience
- You intentionally want to control which pages Google crawls
- You understand Google’s sitemap formatting requirements
How to upload your own sitemap
- Create a sitemap file in XML format using a text editor or sitemap generator
- Save the file with the name
sitemap.xml - Open your website editor by adding /admin to the end of your website address (e.g. www.yourwebsite.com/admin)
- Go to Manage Files

- Click Upload and upload your sitemap.xml file
- Click the uploaded file and copy the file path URL

- In the website backend, go to Redirects
- Click Add Redirect
- In the Redirect From field: Enter /sitemap.xml
- In the Redirect To field: Paste the copied file URL into the Redirect to field

- Click Save
Once complete, submit /sitemap.xml in Google Search Console following the steps above.

If your site does not verify or pages are not indexed, review the common issues below.
