The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) offers liability protection to online service providers, such as real estate websites, from copyright infringement. Some MLS boards may require DMCA compliance registration before granting approval for a Real Geeks website to use their listing data.
If your MLS board requires DMCA compliance, please follow the steps below to expedite the process.
DMCA Registration
- Go to the DMCA Designated Agent Registration page
- Click Register Here to create an account
Create an account with the copyright office for DMCA compliancy - Check your email for an account activation confirmation, and proceed to your account through this message
Use the link located in your confirmation email to access your activated account - When logged in, click Add Service Provider
- Under Service Provider: enter your brokerage’s contact information
Enter your brokerage's contact information as the Service Provider - Click Next
- Under the Add/Delete Alternate Names: use the Plus (+) sign to enter your website’s domain name
Enter the domain name for your Real Geeks website - Click Next
- Assign a Designated Agent to be the primary point of contact for the copyright office in the event of a copyright infringement notification
- Click Next
- Follow the prompts to complete the payment to officially register with the copyright office
After payment, you will receive an email with the official DMCA notice that is required to be displayed on your website.
Adding a DMCA to your Website
To save you time during this process, forward the email containing your DMCA notice to onboarding@realgeeks.com. Our onboarding team will add it to your website and notify your MLS board upon completion.
