Real Geeks AI Connect - Connect Using Your Command Line Interface (CLI)

Real Geeks AI Connect lets AI tools work directly with your Real Geeks website, so you can use AI to create pages, write blog posts, update website content, change your design, and complete other website projects.

There are different ways to access Real Geeks AI Connect. This guide covers the more advanced command-line interface (CLI) method using the Real Geeks geekcli tool.

What You Can Do With geekcli

geekcli is the command-line tool for accessing Real Geeks AI Connect from your computer. Instead of managing your website through the website admin, you can use commands in Terminal or PowerShell.

With geekcli, you can:

• Write, schedule, and publish blog posts

• Create and update pages, area pages, and agent pages

• Manage the property searches shown on your pages

• Edit your home page, navigation, sidebars, and footers

• Change supported site settings and design options

• Upload photos and files to your media library

• Take screenshots to check how changes look on desktop or mobile

• Review and undo supported website changes

You can enter these commands yourself or let an AI coding agent like Claude Code or Codex use geekcli to do the work for you.

Install geekcli

Mac or Linux

1. Open Terminal on your computer.

2. Copy and paste the following command:
   
   curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/realgeeks/geekcli/main/install.sh | sh

3. Press Enter and allow the installation to finish.

Windows

1. Open PowerShell.

2. Copy and paste the following command:

   irm https://raw.githubusercontent.com/realgeeks/geekcli/main/install.ps1 | iex

3. Press Enter and allow the installation to finish.

Connect geekcli to Your Website

After installing geekcli, connect it to the Real Geeks website you want to manage.

You only need to complete this connection process once. After that, geekcli remembers the approved website until the connection expires or you remove it.

Connect Your Website

1. Open Terminal or PowerShell.

2. Run the login command below, replacing www.YOUR-SITE.com with your website address:
   geekcli auth login --site www.YOUR-SITE.com

3. Your browser will open your Real Geeks website admin. Follow the steps (including signing in to your Real Geeks account)

4. Review the connection and what geekcli will be allowed to change.

5. Click Approve.

6. Return to Terminal or PowerShell.

The connection expires after six months. When that happens, run the login command again to reconnect.

Connect More Than One Website

If you manage multiple Real Geeks websites, you can connect each one to geekcli.

To see the websites you've connected, run:

geekcli auth sites

To switch the website geekcli uses by default, run:

geekcli auth use www.OTHER-SITE.com

Replace www.OTHER-SITE.com with your website address you want to use.

Try It

Once you are connected, you can start managing your website.

Create a Blog Post

1. Write your content in a text or Markdown file, then run:
   geekcli posts create --title "[BLOG TITLE]" --slug [URL SLUG] --content-file [FILE] --category [BLOG CATEGORY] --create-categories

   • Example:
     geekcli posts create --title "Spring market update" --slug spring-market-update --content-file post.md --category market-updates --create-categories

2. New blog posts are saved as drafts so you can review them before publishing.

   • Publish the post:
     geekcli posts publish spring-market-update

   • Or schedule it:
     geekcli posts publish spring-market-update --at 2026-11-01T09:00:00-05:00

Update a Page

Update the content of an existing page:

geekcli pages update /about/ --content-file about.md

Or update specific information, such as its meta description:

geekcli pages update /buying/ --meta-description "Everything you need to know about buying a home in Riverside."

Only the information included in your command is changed.

Create an Area Page

An area page's listings come from its property search criteria, not just the name you give the page.

First, see which search fields your website accepts:

geekcli search fields

Then test your search criteria:

geekcli search check subdivision=Downtown --count

This helps you confirm that your MLS recognizes the value and see how many listings match.

Once you confirm the search, create the page.

Example prompt:

geekcli area-pages create --slug downtown --area-name Downtown --anchor-text "Downtown Homes" --search-criteria subdivision=Downtown --content-file downtown.md

Upload an Image

Upload a photo to your website:

geekcli files upload hero.jpg --to images

geekcli returns the image address so you can use it on your pages or blog posts.

Check Your Work

You can have geekcli take a screenshot of a page after making changes.

Desktop:

geekcli snapshot / --full

Mobile:

geekcli snapshot /blog/spring-market-update/ --mobile --full

This is especially helpful when an AI coding agent is making changes for you.

Use geekcli With an AI Coding Agent

One of the biggest benefits of the CLI method is using Real Geeks AI Connect with an AI coding agent like Claude Code or Codex.

These tools can run commands on your computer. Once you install geekcli and connect it to your website, the AI coding agent can use geekcli to complete website projects for you.

You can still describe what you want in normal language.

For example:

“Use geekcli to create an area page for Highland Park. Write SEO-friendly content for people looking for homes in the area, add the appropriate property search, and check the finished page on desktop and mobile.”

Or:

“Use geekcli to write a draft blog post about this spring's real estate market in Riverside and add a header image. Run geekcli guide first.”

To get started:

1. Install geekcli.

2. Connect geekcli to your website yourself.

3. Open your AI coding agent.

4. Tell it to use geekcli and describe what you want done.

5. Ask the agent to review its work before making major changes live.

geekcli includes instructions specifically for AI coding agents. Your agent can run:

geekcli guide

This helps it understand the available commands and how to use them correctly.

Work Safely on Your Live Website

geekcli can make real changes to your website. Review important changes just as you would when working inside your website admin.

Start Blog Posts as Drafts

New blog posts created through geekcli are drafts until you publish them.

Draft and scheduled posts are not visible to website visitors or search engines until they are published.

Review Previous Versions

Supported website content keeps a revision history.

For example:

geekcli pages revisions /buying/

This lists previous versions of the page.

You can restore one using its revision number:

geekcli pages revert /buying/ 318

Revision tools are also available for supported posts, area pages, agent pages, footers, and the home page.

Preview Design Changes

Run:

geekcli design preview

This gives you a preview of supported template or color changes without immediately saving them to your live website.

Use geekcli design set when you are ready to make the change live.

Watch for Warnings

If geekcli detects something that may not work as expected, it displays a warning: message.

For example, it may warn you about property search criteria your MLS does not recognize.

Review warnings before continuing.

Review Your Change History

Changes made through geekcli are recorded in your website's change history and identified by the key that made the change.

Manage and Remove Access

You can disconnect geekcli from your website at any time. How you remove access depends on whether you want to stop geekcli from accessing your website or simply remove the saved connection from your computer.

Revoke Website Access

Each time you connect geekcli, Real Geeks creates an API key that gives it permission to work on your website.

To remove that access:

1. Open your Real Geeks website admin.

2. Go to API Keys.

3. Find the API key created for geekcli.

4. Revoke the key.

Once revoked, that connection can no longer make changes to your website.

Your geekcli connection also expires automatically after six months. To check when your current connection expires, run:

geekcli me

If the connection has expired, you can reconnect by running the login command again.

Troubleshooting

Real Geeks AI Connect Is Not Enabled

If you see:

api_disabled

the Content API that powers Real Geeks AI Connect has not been enabled for that website.

Request access or contact Real Geeks Support.

Your Connection Expired

If you see:

token_expired

your six-month connection has expired.

Run:

geekcli auth login --site www.YOUR-SITE.com

and approve the connection again.

Your Computer Cannot Find geekcli

If you see:

command not found: geekcli

close and reopen Terminal or PowerShell first.

If geekcli still cannot be found, run the installation command again. The installer will show where geekcli was installed and provide additional instructions if that location needs to be added to your PATH.

You Are Not the Site Owner

Only the site owner can approve the initial geekcli connection.

If needed, the owner can create an API key under:

Website Admin → API Keys

You can then connect using:

geekcli auth login --site www.YOUR-SITE.com --api-key-stdin

Paste the provided key and follow the prompts.

Something Else Is Not Working

Add -v to a command to see additional technical information about what geekcli sent and received.

You can share that output with Real Geeks Support when troubleshooting.

• What is the difference between the standard Real Geeks AI Connect setup and this method?
  Both methods give AI tools access to supported Real Geeks website features. The standard setup lets you connect directly to a supported AI assistant like ChatGPT or Claude and is the easiest option for most users. The CLI method uses geekcli on your computer and is designed for more advanced users, including those working with AI coding agents like Claude Code or Codex.

• Does geekcli cost anything?
  No. geekcli is free and open source.

• Do I need an AI coding agent to use geekcli?
  No. You can enter geekcli commands yourself in Terminal or PowerShell. An AI coding agent can make the process easier by running those commands for you based on normal-language instructions.

• Can geekcli access my Real Geeks CRM?
  No. geekcli manages supported Real Geeks website content and settings. It does not provide access to leads, CRM features, or billing.

• Can I use geekcli on more than one website?
  Yes. You can authorize multiple Real Geeks websites and switch between them when needed.
