Google Analytics 4 (GA4) - Quick Start

With Google requiring all analytics accounts to be switched to Google Analytics 4 (GA4) by July 1st, 2023, here's a guide that explains how to migrate your Universal Analytics (UA) account to GA4.

The process for converting to GA4 consists of two major steps: 

Create a GA4 property

Use Google's GA4 Property Setup Assistant to efficiently set up your GA4 property in a few clicks of your mouse! Can't find the GA4 Property Setup Assistant? Learn how to create your GA4 Property manually!

  1. Visit analytics.google.com
  2. Click on the Admin tab (Gear icon in the bottom-left)
  3. In the Property column, click on GA4 Setup Assistant.
  4. Click Get Started
  5. Click Create and Continue

Add tracking to your website

To start measuring your website's user activity, you need to add your property's unique Measurement ID to your website. This can be accomplished in a few steps: 

  1. Visit analytics.google.com
  2. Click on the Admin tab (Gear icon in the bottom-left)
  3. Select Setup Assistant
  4. Click the “Action” arrow to the right, and click Manage data streams
  5. Click your website name
  6. Click the copy icon next to Measurement ID

    Copy the Measurement ID and add it to your website
  7. Go to your website’s settings.
    • To access the Website Editor page of your website, add "/admin" to the end of your website URL (e.g., www.website.com/admin)
    • Click Site Settings
  8. Paste the ID into the GA4 Measurement ID field
    • Be sure to confirm that the Enable GA4 field has been set to True
  9. Click Save

Paste your Measure ID in the provided space

 

Please Note: It can sometimes  take up to 48 hours before your new GA4 property will begin collecting data on your website.
